Warlock on Mobile: Playing D2R's New Class on iPhone & iPad

Quick Answer

Why it matters here
The Warlock shipped with the Reign of the Warlock expansion (February 2026) — the exact version d2r-mobile requires. The new class is fully playable on your phone.
The class in one line
A forbidden-magic caster with three paths — Demon (enslaved demons fight for you), Eldritch (magic-infused weapons), Chaos (fire and shadow at range) — and it levitates weapons rather than holding them.

The Class, Briefly

The Warlock arrived with the Reign of the Warlock expansion — Diablo II's first new class in 25 years, released February 2026. The expansion is also a hard requirement for d2r-mobile (install guide), which means every D2R Mobile player has the Warlock available. If you have been maining the same Sorceress since 2001, this is the new car in the garage.

From the expansion's official feature description: the class commands forbidden magic through three paths — Demon (enslave hellspawn as allies), Eldritch (transform weapons into conduits of destruction), and Chaos (unleash Hell, fire and shadow from afar). One distinctive mechanic: Warlocks levitate their weapons rather than physically holding them — which lets them wield a two-handed weapon alongside an off-hand, unlocking gearing combinations no other class has.

Why the Warlock Suits a Phone

Our read — with the caveat that class-meta verdicts belong to the sites that maintain full build catalogs; what we contribute is the mobile-specific layer:

  1. Pet-style play is touch-native. The Demon path's enslaved allies keep fighting while your thumbs reposition or drink — the same structural advantage summoner classes have always had on touch screens (see the builds framework).
  2. Levitated weapons are a UI gift. A floating caster-weapon fantasy needs no fancy animation budget from a virtual stick; the class reads perfectly at phone scale and frame rates.
  3. Auto-drink loves a caster. The port's two-tier auto-drink (QoL guide) covers the squishiest early levels — the classic caster problem — without eating skill-bar slots.
  4. The 40-skill-point Rift cap opens the paths' hybrids. A three-path class with a raised skill cap is exactly where hybrid experimentation pays (see the Rift deep dive).

Three Paths, Two Inputs

How the three paths line up with touch vs controller, judged by what each input is good at (drag-to-aim, auto-targeting, stick precision — see the controls guide):

PathPlay patternOn touchOn controller
DemonMaintain an enslaved army, position around itExcellent — the army plays while your thumbs steerExcellent — same logic, stick precision added
EldritchWeapon-conduit attacks — closer to melee rhythm at timesGood — auto-targeting covers the approachBest fit — precision movement pays most here
ChaosRanged fire/shadow artillery with big AoEVery good — drag-to-aim is built for big targetsVery good — either input clears comfortably
Editorial judgment — the paths' descriptions are from the expansion's official materials; the input-fit table is our reasoning from how the port's two control schemes work. We do not publish skill-point templates for a class this young — check the build catalog sites for those, and expect them to evolve with each patch.

Warlock on Mobile FAQ

Do I need the expansion to play the Warlock on my phone?

You need the expansion regardless — d2r-mobile requires the Reign of the Warlock version of the game. Since you have it, the class is available; there is no separate unlock.

Is the Warlock the best class for mobile?

There is no single best — but by input ergonomics, pet and ranged caster profiles have the gentlest learning curve on touch (see the builds framework's playstyle table). The Warlock spans both profiles depending on path.

Where are the full Warlock build guides?

On the build-catalog sites (Maxroll, Icy Veins, d2runewizard), which maintain skill-level detail and update with each patch. Our lane is the mobile layer — input fit, QoL interactions, and the port's exclusive modes.
